Hello! My name is Capri Zarowny .
I was born and raised in Whitehorse and I have been residing in Dawson City for the last 14 years.
I am a member of Soowahlie First Nation as well as a citizen of Champagne & Aishihik.
I have been an addict for the majority of my life, after many failed attempts at sobriety and after reaching my rock bottom, I chose to attend Round Lake Treatment Center in 2015.
My life has changed in so many beautiful ways since then.
Something extremely helpful to me in my sobriety has been listening to recovery stories through podcasts. Over the years I began to notice that I was not hearing any voices from within our own communities here in the Yukon depicting the unique struggles that people in northern areas face regarding intergenerational trauma, isolation, lack of health services and difficulty accessing treatment.
I began recording stories and learning the editing process to make my own podcast, this has not been easy but extremely rewarding and hopefully will be helpful to others.
I believe that sharing these stories will help to break stigmas, bring hope and show that recovery is possible within our communities.
